DIGroupArchitecture completed the programing and preliminary design for the proposed Union County Government Complex, implemented by the Union County Improvement Authority.
The project consists of two mid-rise office towers separated by an outdoor plaza. As envisioned, the Union County Administration Building will be a 5-story, 80,000 sf structure atop one level of parking. The Union County Human Services Building will be a 7-story, 133,000 sf facility, located on the east end of the site, proximate to downtown, public parking and public transportation.
To soften the mass of the buildings, and provide a more comfortable pedestrian experience along the streetscape, the lower two floors of the building step back using curvilinear facades. Upper floors of the buildings are clad with complementary glass and metal panel facades, arranged in varied modules that respond to interior uses and allow ample daylight to filter deep into the interior. Building materials and systems were designed to be sustainable, durable and require limited maintenance.
