Dina's Dwellings

DIG was contracted to perform a feasibility study and design the splitting of the existing church into two spaces — one for the continued use of the congregation and cultural activities, and the other for housing victims of domestic violence. In order to satisfy the congregation’s needs, their half of the space is designed with a gathering area on the original main level and the sanctuary/cultural center on the second floor. The gathering area contains a main stair on access with the front doors and bathed in light from the space above.

A smaller addition in the rear of the church provides access to the housing component separate and secure from the church entry. There are three floors of supportive housing containing 10 units. It has been designed as a beacon to reach out to women and children in need of a place to begin their journey back to a normalized life.
